My brother Sam and 5-year-old nephew Milo threw the ceremonial first pitch at the Minnesota Twins home game at Target Field against the Oakland Athletics on April 9, 2011. Here is the PA announcer’s script: “The Minnesota Twins are proud to welcome Mayo Clinic patient Sam Sigelman and his son, Milo. Just 3 weeks ago, Sam was diagnosed with kidney cancer and was told that he would need to have his entire right kidney removed. This was a scary prospect for a young father with 2 little boys, so when he learned that a Mayo Clinic physician could do a rare surgery to remove the tumor and reconstruct his right kidney, Sam opted to take the short trip from Minneapolis down to Rochester for a second opinion. Last week, Mayo Clinic urologist Dr. Brad Leibovich performed this rare surgery, and today, Sam is cancer-free and still has 85% of his right kidney! For more information about treatment at Mayo Clinic, visit mayoclinic.org. Now Sam’s five-year old son Milo will help Dad throw out the pitch. It’s your pitch, guys.” Of course, the STAR of the show is Milo, and his wicked changeup that falls in for a strike to honor his dad. See it at about 1:08. Steee-rike!!
