This is the first time the MJCI is being held in Las Vegas. Record setting heat enveloped the Las Vegas valley but anyone who wanted to stay cool headed to the legendary Shadow Creek Golf course today, just north of the fabulous Las Vegas Strip. The world class facility provides ample shade trees not native to the area, but the coolest thing was the start of the celebrity team competition, even as the temperature threatened to break records for the second consecutive day. Giant checks on a golf course usually go to the winner, and the winner today was charity. Michael Jordan came through in the clutch once again. Proceeds checks tournament were presented to the Make-A-Wish Foundation for $100000 and to the Nevada Cancer Institute, for $50000 by Aria Resort and Casino president and COO Bill McBeath. The other two charities benefiting from the tournament are the James R. Jordan Foundation (dedicated to strengthening families, motivating youth and ensuring high quality academic opportunities for children in under-served communities) and Cats Care (the Charlotte Bobcats’ commitment to bringing positive and lasting change through social responsibility, education, fitness, and youth and family development).
