Touch on Olajuwon’s Nigerian heritage and then move on to his recruitment and eventual signing to play basketball at the University of Houston. Olajuwon was an unusual recruit in that he had hardly ever played basketball until he reached college, but being over 7 feet tall helped him eventually become one of the best centers to ever play the college game. This is Bryan Goettel’s audition video for the position of Public Address Announcer at Wrigley Field. I have closely followed the Cubs since childhood, growing up in Eastern Iowa. I made countless trips into Chicago over the years and have some of my greatest memories at Wrigley Field. The Cubs and Harry Caray played a large role in my interest in broadcasting. After graduating from the University of Southern California with a degree in broadcast journalism, I spent seven years working as a sports anchor and reporter at KOTA-TV in Rapid City, SD; WNCF-TV in Montgomery, AL; and KWWL-TV in Waterloo, IA. I currently work in media relations in Washington, DC, and I believe my unique combination of experience and passion for the Cubs will enable me to be considered for the next voice of Wrigley Field.
