To Sir With Love sung by Lulu (1967) with opening movie credits

From 1967 the opening credits of one of my favorites, “To Sir With Love” starring one of the best actors ever Sidney Poitier as teacher Mark Thackeray. This clip also features the song during the student outing to the museum and as it was performed in the movie by Lulu (with The Mindbenders). The song was written by Don Black and Mark London. Lulu’s single was released in 1967 and reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100, remaining in the top position for five weeks and earning the number one position for the entire year. “To Sir With Love” also peaked at number nine on the R&B charts. The London bus that appears in several sequences at the start of the film, LLU 829, and in some later sequences, still survives today as a preserved vintage vehicle, and can be seen at the East Anglia Transport Museum, Carlton Colville, Lowestoft, England.

The Dirty Dozen (1967) – Part 6

Part 6 of “The Dirty Dozen.” After many attempts to find some kind of unit cohesion, the 12 recruits finally make an improbable stand about their living conditions, and finally take back some form of control over their situation…an event that explains why the movie has it’s name. Also, the men have to go an receive a crash-course training program on how to parachute. When the unit arrives at the airbase, they have an expected welcoming committee waiting for them. Most folks nowadays probably won’t even catch the significance of Jim Brown’s role in this film, since it’s fairly commonplace to see major athletes play important acting roles in films. But at the time this movie was made, Jim Brown was the top leading rusher in the NFL for the Cleveland Browns. At the ripe age of 29, he decided to take on this acting role, and basically had to leave the NFL because the owner of the Browns refused to allow him to act AND be a signed player on his team. So after 8 seasons in the pros, and now being forced to make a choice, Jim Brown decided to take a chance and pursue an acting career instead. Many years later, Art Modell (the Brown’s owner) said in Spike Lee’s documentary “Jim Brown: All American” that his intransigence had been a mistake, and if he had to do it all over again, he would not have forced Jim Brown to make such a choice. In fact, looking at it now, such an ultimatum sounds freaking ridiculous to me…but it was a different time back then, and I guess the owners …

This is the greatest NBA game preserved and available, i upload it like a tribute to the extint Seattle Supersonics with a game from his expansion year (Wilt Chamberlain made a 60 point game vs them this season), also i want to post it like a punishment to Clay $ennet, for destroying this historical NBA franchise and exile them to Oklahoma only for money. That’s the fucking truth i say. The game is siletn, except for some parts during the 2nd half in which it only sounds the atmosphere of the crowd, the coachs and the players (never the sound of the broadcast, youngest Chris Schenkel). Very few crow in that era so, how do you explain 40 years later the Sonics couldn’t exist with many more people and Seattle fans? Again, $$$. The coachs are Bill Sharman for the Warriors and Al Bianchi for the expansion year Sonics. More info: www.basketball-reference.com
